BioBoosters Network meeting

The best experience is when one success story inspires the new activities. This is what happened with the BioBoosters project, funded by the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Program (January 2023 – December 2025). The project ended but activities not.

In December 2025, the network gathered people from different countries of Baltic Sea Region to Riga, Latvia to learn on future focus of Policy Area Bioeconomy under EU Strategy of the Baltic Sea Region and to overview the results and lessons learned implementing project BioBoosters. The aim of the project was to bring together bio-based businesses in rural areas to share the know-how in circular production, and trigger green business opportunities.

The project delivered:

  • 1 open innovation methodology with proven inter-regional open innovation impact
  • 18 international hackathons to match the innovation needs of bioeconomy sectors
  • 23 innovation partnerships between challenge providers and winning teams (60% international)
  • 500+ specialists from industry and research connected to lead circular bioeconomy transition.

About future plans of the Network: the activities will not stop with end of project and remain to continue promoting sustainability in the Baltic Sea region. This is the main conclusion of workshops and discussions led by Mrs. Inguna Kucina, Mr. Krišjānis Pundurs and Mrs. Anna Aalto.

Valuable insights are presented in three publications the BioBoosters project:

  • BioBoosters Boosting Circular Transition/Insights from BioBoosters: here
  • BioBoosters Impact Review 2025: here
  • BioBoosters Hackathon Handbook: here

We believe these publications may be relevant for EU-level stakeholders working on bioeconomy policy, regional development, innovation support instruments, and the green transition.
