At the Heart of Artificial Intelligence Research: Winter School of Innovation 2025
The Winter School of Innovation is a new pilot initiative under the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR) Policy Area Innovation, created to support young researchers by responding to unmet educational needs in innovation and artificial intelligence. As discussions within the EUSBSR increasingly emphasize the meaningful involvement of young people across all levels of cooperation, the School directly addresses this call by empowering those who will shape the Region’s future innovation landscape.
The Winter School of Innovation was held for the first time in December 2025 at the University of Warsaw. Over three days, the School brought together early-career researchers from across the Baltic Sea Region to explore the newest developments in artificial intelligence and innovation. The programme combined keynote speeches on AI and innovation, expert talks, and practical, hands-on workshops that enabled participants to collaborate, co-create, and apply newly acquired skills in an interactive setting.
The concept of the Innovation School emerged from consultations between the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology of the Republic of Poland, conducted within the Steering Group of the Policy Area Innovation. From the outset, the School was designed to address gaps in existing educational offerings and to strengthen the strategic, future-oriented skills of young researchers in the fields of innovation and artificial intelligence. These skills are essential for ensuring the sustainable development of innovation across the Baltic Sea Region.
