The Potential of Bioeconomy for Resilient and Strong Communities
In November 2025, the Ministry of Agriculture of Lithuania, as co-coordinator of Policy Area Bioeconomy, invited representatives of rural communities, business, science and policy makers from Baltic Sea Region to discuss on potential threats and initiatives that strengthen communities and encourages run business in a sustainable way.

The speakers: Artūras Pekauskas (Lithuania), PhD Ieva Birka (Latvia), Kristiina Tammets (Estonia), Leena Viitaharju (Finland), Eva Fridman (Sweden), PhD Gabrielius Klimenka (Lithuania), PhD Alvija Šalaševičienė (Lithuania), PhD Eugenija Bakšienė (Lithuania) shared the insights that indeed prove that the Baltic Sea Region has a great potential to develop bioeconomy and provide itself with essential resources: locally produced food of high-quality, energy, fertilizers and other essential products. There are plenty of opportunities to develop sustainable business using local bio-resources that gives the resilience in cases of crises. There is a perfect place to live life close to nature with strong relations between people in communities.
The event gathered about 100 participants (both physically in Vilnius and on-line) from all countries of Baltic Sea Region. Participants heard different experience from different countries that encourages to do step locally in our communities and go further with the like-minded partners of Baltic Sea Region.
