Nutrient recycling in the Baltic Sea Region
Policy Area Nutri serves as a body where local, regional, macro regional and international organisations (private and public) become involved, to horizontally improve and widen the impact of different strategic frameworks. To foster cooperation and build networks in the Baltic Sea Region and beyond, Policy Area Nutri Coordinators host Nutri Talks, a series for wastewater, nutrient and eutrophication specialists.
On 23 September, the topic was Nutrient recycling in the Baltic Sea Region. A significant challenge across various sectors, including agriculture, wastewater treatment, and industry, is the safe and cost-efficient recycling of nutrients.
Presentations highlighted the need for further development in logistical and safety solutions, as well as a systemic analysis of nutrient flows within individual farms or neighbouring farms. Project presentations covered projects funded through Horizon, Interreg Baltic Sea Region and Interreg Central Baltic -programmes, as well as Finnish national funds. The event addressed the need for enhanced cooperation within the Baltic Sea Region. Participants emphasized the importance of exchanging experiences between countries and sharing information about ongoing activities.
There seemed to be interest for a follow-up event in 2025. If you would like to present your activities related to nutrient recycling or suggest topics you want to learn more about, please send your ideas and suggestions through a questionnaire or directly to PA Nutri coordinators.
