Retaining those who care: Age-friendly workplaces for a sustainable healthcare workforce

Online (via Zoom)
28 April 2026 - 28 April 2026

Following a series of exchanges in 2025, the Economy of Wellbeing of People initiative continues in 2026 with a new set of online workshops. These workshops aim to maintain engagement, deepen dialogue, and connect ongoing work across the Baltic Sea Region while the broader collaborative platform is being further developed.

They provide a light and interactive space for practitioners, policymakers, and stakeholders to exchange experiences, explore concrete challenges, and identify practical solutions.

The first workshop is organised in cooperation with Policy Area Health (PA Health), the Northern Dimension Partnership in Public Health and Social Wellbeing (NDPHS). These workshops also contribute to the ongoing development of a collaborative platform under the EUSBSR.

Participation is open and free of charge.

The first workshop in this 2026 series will focus on:

Retaining those who care: Age-friendly workplaces for a sustainable healthcare workforce

Healthcare systems across the Baltic Sea Region are facing increasing pressure to retain experienced staff while responding to demographic change. Creating age-friendly workplaces is becoming essential to ensure both workforce sustainability and quality of care.

This workshop will bring together perspectives from regional authorities, healthcare organisations, and experts to explore:

-The role of management and HR in supporting sustainable working lives

-Practical challenges in retaining ageing staff

-Approaches to age-friendly workplace design

This workshop is jointly organised by Policy Area Education and Policy Area Health (NDPHS), building on ongoing work on workforce, wellbeing and prevention within the Interreg Central Baltic-funded project “SAFE – Solutions for Age-Friendly Employers”.

Format

The workshop will be held online and will combine:

  • Short inputs from speakers
