Projects supporting PA Hazards
APRIORA
APRIORA tackles the need for a risk-based prioritisation of quaternary treatment at wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) to mitigate emission of micro-pollutants with focus on active pharmaceutical ingredients (API). Since WWTPs are the main emission pathway to the environment, the revised Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive (UWWTD)requires a mandatory risk assessment for quaternary treatment. Accordingly, regional environmental protection authorities (EPAs) in charge will have to prioritize risks and propose cost-effective mitigation measures for future investments in cooperation with WWTP operators. However, both target groups lack sufficient information, capacities and tools to do so.
Here, APRIORA steps in to support and implement most recent outcomes from research regarding pharmaceuticals, providing tools.
ChemClimCircle
The ChemClimCircle project equips municipalities with training modules to apply circular procurement and, by this, to use non-toxic and climate-neutral products.
MUNIMAP
The project MUNIMAP aims to develop a legal and administrative framework for public authorities to initiate joint remediation of dumped munitions from the Baltic Sea and Skagerrak, which pose threats to the marine ecosystem and hinder the maritime economy.
Historical contamination of the Baltic Sea and Skagerrak by both chemical and conventional dumped munitions remains a serious threat to the marine ecosystem and a hindrance to offshore economy. There are legal uncertainties as well as uncertain mandate among authorities to deal with this issue. The situation differs a lot from country to country, but affects the whole BSR region.
The project builds on previous projects CHEMSEA, DAIMON and DAIMON II.
NonHazCity 3
The NonHazCity 3 (NHC2) project helps municipalities, entrepreneurs and individuals construct and renovate buidlings with tox-free materials in order to protect health and the environment.
The project builds on previous projects NonHazCity and NHC2, which have focused on supporting municipalities in developing chemical action plans and to raise awareness among individuals on toxic substances in every-day products.
