Riding the wave – Sustainable water management in the Baltic Sea Region

Turku, online
28 August 2024

On August 28th, a discussion on sustainable water management in the Baltic Sea Region will take place during the Europe Forum and EU Green Week. The event, organized by Centrum Balticum, will bring together several relevant projects funded by the Interreg Baltic Sea Region -programme and Policy Area Nutri.

The participating projects—ReNutriWater, Waterman, Nursecoast II, and City Blues—contribute to the Policy Area Nutri within the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region. Their focus is on promoting water security and sustainable water management practices. These projects offer solutions for recovering safe water and nutrients from wastewater, implementing water reuse strategies, piloting alternative treatment technologies, and preventing flooding through nature-based solutions.

By fostering capacity building, peer learning, and stakeholder engagement, these initiatives empower municipalities to develop strategic approaches. These approaches enhance water supply resilience, reduce nutrient discharge, and improve urban water management. Ultimately, these efforts aim to create more sustainable and resilient communities while addressing the impact of climate change on water resources and infrastructure.
